I was pleasantly surprised by Freaks and Geeks considering I 'm not really a fan of Judd Apatow movies. This show is mostly hilarious, sometimes touching and always cool. So cool it makes you want to hang out under bleachers and start a garage band called 'Creation'! (But only if the adorable and goofy Nick Andopolis is the drummer) It's all about teenage exploration and blurring lines between stereotypes but in a very non-cheesy, non-Glee like way.

I knew I really wanted to do a Freaks and Geeks post but I couldn't find a character whose outfits were...er...inspiring. The baggy jeans, 70's style striped shirts and sweater vests could not be found in my wardrobe so I went as close to grunge as I possibly could. Hello florals and olive cardigan. Yep, a poor substitute for Lindsey's wicked army jacket.

I've been treating myself to a few episodes before I go to bed each night. (I kept doing that 'Ooh, one more episode! Just one more!' game) I would spend half the time clutching my stomach from laughter and then the other half wiping away tears. Though the latter might be because it is that time of the month. So that might be more due to hormonal reasons...
The only complaint I would have about the show is that Busy Philipps as Kim Kelly should have been billed in the opening credits. Now she is a character!
"I'm not a prude. If I was a prude then you'd never have been born!" - Mr. Weir.
The line you never want to hear from your parents.
"I never get better because I'm never given the chance. You know, I could be good!" - Bill Haverchuck (on baseball)
Pretty much sums up my feeling about certain physical education teachers who already have their favorites picked out even before classes began. What a cliche that in my school, all the PE teachers loved cheerleaders.
"What if college applications begin and none of the colleges want you? - Mr. Russo, guidance counselor
What if I don't want them?" - Lindsay Weir
I wish I was this wise in high school. Oh standardized testing! When will schools realize that you are completely outdated.
If any reader out there is still in high school hell (mine was an ordeal because of academics mostly -though I had my fair share of cat fights too) let me tell you: it gets way better. I always knew I was more suited for the 'real world' than to just sit in some classroom with a teacher who doesn't even think I'm anything special. And now that I've graduated I feel much more confident than I ever did in school. Power through it, kids!

Oh, James Franco. <3 I can't believe I've never seen this show yet! I like your all-thrifted outfit btw. :)
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is adorable!!!! And... I just went through my senior yearbook when visiting my parents house. There were so many faces I was very happy to leave behind.. but then I saw some that I missed too! High school- sheesh.. so glad it's over!
ReplyDeleteExcellent parting words for them high school kids! (;
ReplyDeleteWell I haven't watched this yet but now I am just dying to! The cast is pretty phenomenal, and that's good enough for me.
Don't worry too much about your outfit not being spot-on; it's still adorable as heck and I can totally see the inspiration!
That's such great advice!! I totally feel the same as you about school, even though I'm still there (but only a few more months, hooray!), I just can't wait to get out into the real world. My granny told me that I should enjoy school while I can, because the real world is awful and it's all downhill from here, so I'm really glad that other people feel differently! Anyway, I love your outfit, I think it's great that it's your twist on it-also, those shoes are cool!

Thanks for posting this! It's a new series? First time I heard of it but sounds like it's right up my alley! This definitely deserves a trip to metrowalk. Love your outfit, you look more pretty than grunge though. Like the "flower among the thorns". Hahaha =)
ReplyDeleteOMG,JAMES FRANCO ♥ love the outfit :)
ReplyDeleteHaha I know what you mean, I loved that show but the outfits were a bit blugh! :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the title to this post I let out a little 'yay' of happiness. I started watching it in fits and starts on youtube last year and was always saying, just one more quarter of an episode and I'll go to work... This is a pretty take on grunge and your new lens is fantatastic.
ReplyDeletevery cute outfit. I felt the same way in school, like i just wanted to get through it and get on to the real world
ReplyDeleteI loved Busy Phillips in this show too!!! I loved this show in general and am sad they only had one season!!
ReplyDeleteoooooh interesting cast! definitely adding this show to my list.
ReplyDeletehigh school for me was a big joke. there were good times, but for the most part, it was ridiculous. especially in an all-girls school setting. haha, you feel me? definitely NOT a time i'd want to go back to!

Oh I absolutely love Freaks & Geeks! I managed to watch the whole series online a while ago as you can't get the DVD boxset over here in the UK (well, you can on amazon but a multi-region player is needed). I love your take on the fashion too B, you look gorgeous in green!
ReplyDeleteLove the new layout/header too ladies! :)
You look amazing!! Totally LOVE you in those Keds sneakers!! More please.
ReplyDeleteI totally had to comment on this post... I so relate to Freaks and Geeks... that feeling of not fitting in in school and you kind of wish your older self would've told your younger self it was actually no big deal... I'm guessing you guys relate as well??
ReplyDeleteLove that green cardigan and wear the heck did you buy those cute floral skorts!?! I hate highschool, too. I was a fattie and I was awkward. But then, who wasn't?
ReplyDeleteOne of the best shows ever made.
ReplyDeleteMost actors are still working on TV on some of the most awesome shows (John Francis Daley (of the little group) in Bones, Jason Segel in HIMYM) and some have even hit hollywood gold (James Franco, Seth Rogen).
Loved the post.
